WOMEN’S GOLF · SEPTEMBER 9–10, 2026 · RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS

## Executive brief

UVA Wise finished ninth in the rain-shortened Charleston Invitational at Edgewood Country Club in Sissonville, West Virginia. Abby Bradley led the Cavaliers with a tie for eighth after an even-par second round of 71\. [\[1\]](#source-1)

Mayberry’s assessment: Bradley’s individual finish was the clearest positive, while the team placing points to the importance of depth beyond the leading score. Those conclusions can coexist without turning one player’s result into a verdict on the entire lineup.

## Decisive scoring

The planned final day was cancelled, leaving two completed rounds as the result. King University’s account independently confirms the rain cancellation and the 36-hole limit. [\[2\]](#source-2)

That shortened format matters to the interpretation. There was no final round in which players could recover positions or defend them. The report therefore evaluates the completed scores rather than describing an unplayed finishing stretch or suggesting how another round would have changed the standings.

## Player impact

Bradley improved six strokes from her opening 77\. Zelaski improved two, Neubert four and Walsh one, while Walker returned the same score in each round. [\[1\]](#source-1)

Those changes show that improvement was not confined to the team’s leader. They do not establish the reason for it: the available recap does not provide enough hole-level information to separate putting, approach play, driving or course management. A useful review would connect the score changes to that more detailed evidence.

## Mayberry’s take

The spread between the strongest individual finish and the rest of the lineup is the key team-level question. A high finish at the front helps, but four counting scores are needed in each round. Consistency throughout that group is necessary to turn an individual highlight into a stronger team placing.

The cancellation also makes comparisons with a normal three-round tournament less direct. Total strokes across different numbers of rounds are not a meaningful measure of relative performance, and even averages need the context of the course and field.

## Conference context

This was an early fall invitational rather than a SAC championship event. The result offers a starting point for evaluating UVA Wise’s lineup, not a prediction of its eventual conference finish.

The official leaderboard identifies Walsh as an individual entrant, so her scores did not count toward the team result. The four counting rounds totaled 335 and 323, an improvement of 12 strokes and a combined 658\. That distinction keeps individual participation separate from team scoring. [\[3\]](#source-3)
