Carson-Newman’s goal arrived quickly enough after the third concession to provide a possible route back, but another Montevallo finish closed much of that opening. The Eagles never reduced the deficit to a single goal.

The on-target gap was larger than the difference in total shots. Montevallo made more of its attempts reach goal, requiring repeated saves from Henry as well as producing four finishes. That is a clearer explanation than total attempts alone.

For the Eagles, the review is limiting connected scoring sequences while making their own attacking work more dangerous. Montevallo’s distributed finishing and Ross’s creation supplied the successful actions that established and then protected the margin.
