## Savannah Lakes Invitational — Men’s golf

## Executive brief

Wingate delivered the strongest team result among the six covered SAC programs at the 2026 Savannah Lakes Men's Invitational, tying for second in the 18-team field at 17 under par. Carson-Newman placed seventh at 3 under, while Tusculum and Newberry tied for ninth at 4 over. Anderson finished 11th at 6 over and Lenoir-Rhyne 12th at 8 over. USCA won at 34 under, 17 strokes ahead of Wingate and North Georgia. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Newberry's Daymian Rij supplied the standout individual result, winning at 10 under despite his team's ninth-place tie. Wingate, meanwhile, had three team entrants finish at 5 under or better. The contrast is central to this event: an individual championship and a leading team finish tell different stories. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

## Official results

The tournament was completed September 14–15 at Monticello Golf Club in McCormick, South Carolina, with Lander as host. Behind USCA and the two runners-up, Georgia College finished fourth at 16 under, Erskine fifth at 15 under and Lander sixth at 7 under. North Greenville's eighth-place finish at 1 over separated Carson-Newman from Tusculum and Newberry. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

The tables below retain the official ties and display scores relative to par. Individual entries marked IND are separate from a school's team entry. The six covered schools are Wingate, Carson-Newman, Tusculum, Newberry, Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

## Performance analysis

Wingate's total came from rounds of even par, 14 under and 3 under. The middle round was its best, but it did not close the gap to USCA: the eventual winner followed a 13-under opener with a 17-under second round. Wingate trailed USCA by 13 strokes after round one, 16 after round two and 17 at the finish. Against North Georgia, Wingate recovered a two-stroke deficit after round two by closing two strokes better, producing the final tie. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Carson-Newman improved in each round, moving from 2 over to 2 under and then 3 under. Its final 36 holes were 5 under, making it the only covered team besides Wingate to finish below par. The Eagles ended four strokes ahead of North Greenville and four behind Lander: a clear position between the event's leading six and the next group. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Tusculum's route to ninth was a recovery. After opening 7 over, it shot 2 under and 1 under. Newberry arrived at the same total through the opposite sequence: an 8-under opening round followed by 5 over and 7 over. Their identical finish therefore conceals very different progress across the event. The scores establish that contrast without explaining its cause. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne both opened 1 under before finishing with two above-par rounds. Anderson went 3 over and 4 over; Lenoir-Rhyne went 2 over and 7 over. Anderson finished two strokes and one place ahead. For both, the later rounds outweighed the promising opening score. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

## Individual impact

Rij won with rounds of 4 under, even par and 6 under. His closing 6 under was the lowest final-round score among the 35 covered-school players in the supplied results. It was not the lowest round across the entire tournament: Carson-Newman's Dylan Frein shot 7 under in round two. Rij finished two strokes ahead of Wingate's Finn Ellis, who tied for second at 8 under. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Newberry also had Fredrik Gannon tied for 15th at 5 under. Daniel Donato finished tied 76th at 9 over, Rory McLarnon tied 87th at 12 over and Teddy Crooke 107th at 25 over. Those widely separated individual totals show why Rij's title should not be treated as evidence that the whole lineup performed alike. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

For Wingate, Ellis was joined near the top by Mattia D'Errico and Max Drott, both tied 15th at 5 under. D'Errico rebounded from 4 over with rounds of 4 under and 5 under. Garrison Welborn tied 52nd at 4 over, while Charles Amaury Cirier tied 87th at 12 over. Alex Alder's tied-62nd finish at 6 over was an individual entry. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Frein led Carson-Newman in a tie for fifth at 7 under. Bowen Wentz tied 36th at 1 over and closed 3 under; Brady Wentz tied 52nd at 4 over. Jack Bentz and Ian Schoonmaker finished tied 66th and tied 71st. Bryan Tarr competed individually and tied 62nd. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Lenoir-Rhyne had two players below par: Flynn Lewis, tied fifth at 7 under, and David Gee, tied 27th at 1 under. Archie Mathers finished at 5 over, Stanislaus Koch at 12 over and Brady McIntyre at 19 over. Jared Myers was a separate individual entry at 9 over. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

Tusculum's Max Winnersjo finished 24th at 3 under, closing with a 4-under round. Edward Linley finished at 4 over, Harrison Price and Buster O'Callaghan at 5 over, and Dylan Side at 9 over. Anderson's team entrants were led by Caden Olsommer and Sam McMillan, tied 32nd at even par. Graham Boone's tied-15th finish at 5 under was an individual entry, not part of Anderson's team entry. ## Conference context

This shared tournament provides an early-season comparison among six SAC programs, with Wingate leading that group and Carson-Newman the only other covered team under par. It does not establish conference standings or a season-long hierarchy. Tusculum and Newberry's tie also demonstrates why final placement alone does not describe the shape of an event. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2) [\[3\]](#source-3)

Wingate entered the new season as the reigning SAC tournament champion after defeating Lincoln Memorial 5–0 in the April 2026 championship final. That is prior-season context, not evidence of an unchanged roster or a prediction of the next title. Rij's individual win gives Newberry a distinct positive result alongside a more mixed team performance. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2) [\[3\]](#source-3)

## Outlook

Wingate's tie for second and three team entrants at 5 under or better provide the strongest team takeaway among the covered schools. Carson-Newman's improving rounds and Tusculum's recovery are also constructive event-level signals. Newberry can point to its individual champion while evaluating its team's above-par final 36 holes. Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne finished behind their under-par starts. Repeating or reversing those patterns at future events is an open question; this report makes no numerical forecast. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

## Round progression

USCA's rounds of 13 under, 17 under and 4 under produced the winning 34-under total. Wingate went even, 14 under and 3 under; North Georgia went even, 16 under and 1 under. Georgia College closed 4 under to finish one stroke behind the runners-up. The table records all three rounds for each team, avoiding a claim that a low round necessarily improved a team's position relative to every opponent. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)

## Course and field context

Six teams finished at 7 under or better, and seven finished below par. Those totals describe the field's scoring at Monticello; they do not establish course difficulty. The captured results do not include yardage, weather, setup, hole-by-hole data or a historical scoring baseline. No explanation based on those conditions is warranted. ## Methodology

This retrospective uses the official team and player leaderboards, with prior-season championship context from the SAC. All 18 team results and 35 players from the six covered schools are preserved in the tables. Relative-to-par arithmetic was checked, ties retained and individual entries kept separate. The report does not reconstruct halftime coverage or infer counted team scores, health, tactics or causation from aggregate totals. [\[1\]](#source-1) [\[2\]](#source-2)
