Decisive pattern
The opening two sets were opposite 25–9 results. Tusculum later produced ten fifth-set kills with two errors; LMU had four kills and four errors. [1]

Mayberry’s take
Few matches show the limits of an aggregate total more clearly. Equal kills across five sets concealed large differences at particular stages. Tusculum’s final-set production mattered because it arrived in the only set remaining, while LMU’s earlier success could no longer compensate. The lesson is about distribution over the match, not evidence that the losing side lacked attacking contributors.
Conference context
This was SAC play, making the result part of the conference record as well as the overall season. One early league match cannot establish the eventual championship order.
Evidence scope
This retrospective uses official match statistics. It distinguishes documented production from interpretation and does not infer unreported tactics, injuries or coaching decisions.
